Tilers

If you have tried tiling you will have seen that to achieve a high quality professional finish is not as easy as it looks. A professional tiler will be able to  follow plans drawn up by an architect, builder or designer and complete the subsequent tasks such as:

-Marking (or setting) out an area to estimate the amount of tiles and adhesive needed

-Cutting tiles to size and shape with hand-cutters or bench-mounted tools

-Preparing surfaces by leveling off with plaster, sand or cement

fixing the wall or floor tiles and applying the grout before finishing off.

On a restoration job, they may have to repair or remove the previous surface before the setting out stage.

Tilers work with a lot of different building materials, including ceramics, glass, terracotta, stone, granite and marble. On large projects, tilers work in teams, and they often work with other construction tradespeople like plasters or tilers, for example when kitchen fitting or shopfitting

Customers in Britain spend on average two weeks of their lives waiting at home for rogue tradesmen who fail to turn up, according to a new survey.

tilers head a list of shame of Britain’s most unreliable workmen, keeping people waiting for hours on end. People in three out of four homes (more than 18 million) have said they had waited in for a tradesman who didn’t arrive. And a third of adults (around 15 million) said they have lost a whole day or more waiting for a knock on the door that never came.

More than half of people surveyed by community website thebestof.co.uk said it had happened to them twice or more. The average wait of six hours 48 minutes occurred on average every five years, adding up to over 80 hours in a lifetime - the equivalent to two working weeks.

How the web is helping tilers The web is having a significant and positive impact on the fortunes of tilers according to a new study released today.

The research by thebestof, a national network of local marketing websites, run by local people, that champion the best businesses in their area shows that small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) plan to grow their businesses by on average 38% in the coming year.  However the more web-savvy SMEs including builders have growth ambitions that are twice those of their conventional SME counterparts (41% vs 20%).
